The Nordic countries are strengthening cooperation in additive manufacturing to improve industrial resilience, sustainability, and competitiveness. The Nordic Additive Manufacturing Alliance (NAMA) brings together leading additive manufacturing actors from Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark into the first Nordic cooperation network in the field.
The goal of the NAMA project is to promote sustainable production, strengthen supply chain resilience, increase innovation, and create new growth opportunities for Nordic companies. The project is funded by Nordic Innovation, which promotes sustainable growth, innovation, and Nordic competitiveness by supporting cross-border cooperation between the Nordic countries.

“Through the Nordic AM Alliance, we are strengthening the Nordic region’s long-term competitiveness and resilience. Additive manufacturing is a critical technology for sustainability, digitalization and innovation, with each Nordic country holding complementary strengths. By bringing these strengths together, we can speed up the green transition and enhance industrial resilience across borders,” says Sindre Bornstein, Managing Director of Nordic Innovation.
The initiative responds to a growing need for more sustainable and flexible production systems. In recent years, global supply chains have become increasingly vulnerable due to geopolitical tensions, climate change, and logistical disruptions. At the same time, industries face increasing pressure to reduce emissions, improve resource efficiency, and accelerate digitalization.
Additive manufacturing provides a concrete solution to these challenges by enabling localized, on-demand, and resource-efficient production.
The NAMA project is led by DIMECC Ltd, a forerunner in industrial innovation collaboration.
“The Nordic countries already have world-class expertise in additive manufacturing, but it remains fragmented across different actors and countries. Through NAMA, we are building Nordic cooperation that strengthens industrial resilience, accelerates sustainable manufacturing, and gives the Nordic region a stronger common voice internationally,” says Eetu Holstein, Senior Ecosystem Lead of the FAME Ecosystem at DIMECC Ltd.
The collaboration includes FAME – Finnish Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Norwegian Additive Manufacturing Cluster, and Danish AM Hub.
Each country contributes its own specific strengths to the cooperation. Sweden is recognized for materials and metal powder production, Finland for industrial implementation and digital design, Denmark for circular business models and innovation ecosystems, and Norway for maritime and energy sector applications. Together, these strengths create a Nordic competitive advantage that no single country could build alone.
During the project period from 2026 to 2028, the partners will map Nordic additive manufacturing capabilities, identify industrial needs, develop a shared governance model, and create a long-term roadmap for Nordic cooperation. The initiative also aims to strengthen the Nordic region’s role in the future development of European and global manufacturing industries.
