The manufacturing industry is moving towards a more sustainable and digital future – The means and pace of change will be discussed at the MPD event

Professor Minna Lanz, Scientific Co-chair of Manufacturing Performance Days, brought industrial change to the center of the event, where the sustainability and crisis-resistant of supply chains and operating models are rethought. Dr. Dirk Didascalou, CTO, Siemens Digital Industries, will come to discuss the themes of green and digital transformation.

The industry-reforming summit, Manufacturing Performance Days (MPD), focuses on the theme “Sustainable and Resilient Growth”. Dr. Minna Lanz, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Automation at Tampere University is the Scientific Co-chair of Manufacturing Performance Days.

“The European manufacturing industry has had to rethink its supply chains and operating models in recent years. That is part of the reason why there is now a great deal of talk about digitalization and the green transition. They are very important to the manufacturing industry. Digitalisation, information security and artificial intelligence are key technologies in improving productivity, quality and delivery reliability, as well as crisis resistance. The green transition, on the other hand, encourages new investments in both product development and production,” Lanz describes.
The theme of the event is current not only in the European debate, but also from a national perspective.
“In the national Artificial Intelligence 4.0 vision, the efforts to reduce the vulnerability of industrial value chains and to strengthen Europe’s technological leadership, autonomy and sovereignty are particularly emphasized. We have a national need for a more effective and purposeful innovation policy supporting industry, which would strengthen the ability of both the public and private sectors to develop in the digital and green twin transition. Digital technologies are essential for the green transition, increasing productivity and well-being. Without digitalization, the green transition will not progress at the necessary speed,” says Lanz.

Gathering of industry and technology
One of MPD’s five program units concerns the twin transition of industry, i.e. green and digital transformation. In the The Green and Digital Transformation panel discussion Dr. Dirk Didascalou, CTO, Siemens Digital Industries will highlight with other industry leaders how the digital transformation can successfully be mastered to create a more sustainable industrial world without compromising competitiveness. In his introductory speech Mr. Didascalou will lead to the topic by sharing insights how Siemens Xcelerator, an open digital business platform, accelerates industrial companies’ readiness to reach their specific business goals with the help of infinite data and a powerful ecosystem.
MPD 2023, now in its eight year will gather the top management of the manufacturing industry, technology decision makers, experts, and technology and service providers from around the world in Tampere. Previous MPDs in 2017 and 2019 attracted about 800 visitors.
